Annual Events
Each year there are some events which have become tradition for our village over the years. They give the community chance to come together in planning, preparing and enjoying the fun filled events. The event details themselves will be listed in the events section of the site but a summary of them are below.
Pumpkin Event
For the last eight years Ackworth Parish Council has invited the local children to take part in the annual Parish Council’s pumpkin event. The children plant the seeds in Spring and then show off their pumpkins in October ready for carving for Halloween. The Committee Members from Brackenhill Allotment Association help the children with the planting session. They teach the children how to plant the seeds, look after them and how to make them grow as big as they can. To make sure the committee knows how many seeds and pots they need, you need to register your child for the event via the Contact us page on the Parish councils website.
Big Spring Clean
Every spring some dedicated residents get together and spend a day collecting rubbish from flower beds, parks, grass verges, paths and lots of other areas of the village. They usually meets early morning and keep going until late afternoon. Sacks full of rubbish which is thrown from cars, or has been dropped on the floor, blown from bins or commercial areas are collected and disposed of. This event makes sure our village remains clean and tidy.
Gala
Always held on Carr Bridge playing fields the Gala gives local children chance to show off their talents and entertain the community. There are food and drink stalls, bouncy castles, fair rides and lots of other activities for all ages to keep you busy. Organising this event takes lots of helpful people so if you want to lend a hand then enquire with the Parish Council. It usually takes place in June/July time.
Pram Race
Recently revived after a break this event is so much fun. To enter the race you must be a team of no more than 4 and have a pram that can compete with the best of them (or not). You will need to register your team in advance. It usually takes place on the August Bank Holiday weekend on the Sunday, but not specifically set for that day so can change.
Bonfire & Fireworks
For the past couple of years the cricket ground has held a bonfire and fireworks event with a funfair, food and drinks. The entry fee is usually only a couple of pounds and well worth a visit.
